I decided to pick up Call on Me by Roni Loren after reading a novella of hers, Yours All Along (Goodreads), and I picked it up mostly to see if the characters from the novella made an appearance. While the characters from the novella do appear it definitely wasn’t as much as I would have liked but because of them I discovered a book that I liked even better. Call on Me is filled with so many of the tropes that I love in a romance and Loren weaves them together nicely. Pike was the tattooed, bad boy, musician who falls for single-mom Oakley and is determined to win her and learn all of her secrets. One of which being that she’s the voice on the other end of a sex chat hotline which is a job she hates but helps her to support her daughter. And bonus…the child in this story wasn’t super annoying!! Its so hard to write a convincing, non-annoying child in a book. Part of what makes children so lovable and cute is their spontaneity their whimsy and that is often hard to capture in the written word.
But what really sold Call on Me for me was Pike the male lead. Oh Pike how he will make every reader swoon. He’s the bad boy with a heart of gold. His story will make your heart ache and when combined with Oakley’s? Well, you get something that’s a little magical. I raced through this book and found it so hard to put it down once I started it. I loved the chemistry between Pike and Oakley and I just loved how together they became something a little more. Though that’s not to say that these two didn’t frustrate me at times because they did. It wouldn’t be a romance story if there wasn’t some sort of angst and break up and other events that make me want to just reach inside the pages and shake some sense in the characters.
Call on Me is a well paced story that hits all the right notes but its not for the faint of heart. This is a romance story but its also erotica and as such the sex scenes can get a little racy at times. Though it may be considered tame by regular readers of erotica. But you can be sure that there are several hot and steamy moments to help push this story along. I don’t read a lot of erotica but after reading this one I am curious to read some of the other books in this series as I liked all of the secondary characters that we meet in this book. While not a perfect book there is much to love in Call on Me and its guaranteed to give you some heart-achy feels.
At its core though Call on Me is a good story. Its about the connection between two people who are little bit lost and broken and how they help heal each other. Its one that I know that I will find time to re-read because I did so enjoy the journey. And Pike…I really can’t tell you just how much I loved Pike. He is seriously one of my favorite book boyfriends and comes close to another favorite of mine Jimmy and if you know anything about my love for Jimmy though you know that a comparison to him is high praise indeed. #swoon
Add Lead by Kylie Scott to Goodreads. (Click here for my review.) – For heroes that will totally make you swoon from all the feels! Plus how can you resist the bad boy, tattooed, musician with a heart of….well…something.
Add Rule by Jay Crownover to Goodreads. (Click here for my review.) – Rule is much like Pike in the feels he’ll make you feel. He’s a bad boy man whore who just needs that special someone to make him think about reforming his bad boy ways.
