Random Moments from May 2016:

Be sure to check out my instagram to see what I’ve been up to!

So May wasn’t as awesome as April but only because it had the poor unfortune to come after I saw Hamilton. All in all though it was still a pretty good month. I went to an amazing Red Sox game where I saw David Ortiz get his 600th double in this super close edge of your seat game that went into overtime. I also went to Harpoon Fest thanks to a last minute text from a friend which asked “Hey…doing anything today, wanna go drink beer?” For bookish things, I saw Maggie Steifvater at her An Unexpected Story event….she’s seriously one of my favorite authors to see live and try to not to miss an event. If she comes near you, go. Even if you don’t read her books it will be worth it. Trust me. And finally, I flew to NM to visit with my siter, BIL, and the pig-tailed overlord for the start of a very exhausting vacation. Six year olds….they wear you out man.

Such a great game yesterday!!! #redsox #baseball #fenway #fenwaypark #latergram #boston

I love music and if I’m not listening to an audio book then you can be sure my trusty old iPod is getting a major workout. As with previous months I’m still deeply enmeshed in Hamilton though I couldn’t choose just one song to list here….so instead how about all of them? This is a great mash up of the soundtrack and its totally worth the listen!

Be sure to check out my instagram to see what I’ve been up to!

April was a super duper crazy amazing month!!! So much going on. First there was my trip to NYC to see HAMILTON!!! And OH MY STARS it was even better than I imagined it could be!! It totally blew me away and I’m dying to see it again!! I also went to two book signings, one for Emery Lord (spoiler: she’s super fabulous in person too) and Richelle Mead. I also went BACK to NYC at the end of the month to meet up with a friend to tour Hamilton’s New York. (Spoiler: I’m a nerd.) And last but not least I went to the Fenway Opening Day game with my mom. I was totally sick but still had a super fun time…even though the Sox lost. My niece then called to tell me that we weren’t allowed to go to games anymore since they always loose….she’s sassy that one! lol

Go home Mother Nature…you’re drunk! It’s April…the time for these shenanigans is over!

I just can’t stop listening!! My song of the month though is WAIT FOR IT. I just love this song so hard. It may be my favorite and I love how Leslie Odom Jr sings it….to see it live? *dies*

The Contenders – 5 Star Reads

NA

I may not have had any 5 star reads in January 2016 but I read several books that came close which makes choosing a Top 12 Pick for the month really hard. Like really really hard. Though of my 4 star reads there were only two in which I wanted more words, IN REAL LIFE by Jessica Love and TIED TO TROUBLE by Megan Erickson. I loved both books in very different ways and its really hard to choose between them. I mean even the quote graphics I made for them are pretty epic:

Tied to Trouble Quote

In Real Life Quote

But I have to choose one…that is how this game is played and I must follow the rules of my own making. Ok…so rules are meant to be broken but I really do try to stick to this one. Both books gave me heart achy feels but I think the one that inches out the other but just a wee tiny bit is TIED TO TROUBLE by Megan Erickson.

Be sure to check out my instagram to see what I’ve been up to!

This month had a lot going on and it seemed to go by so fast! First there was ALA-MW which was held in Boston and I got to spend time with all of my lovely Bookish Peeps! The weekend wasn’t long enough and I miss you all to pieces! I wish we weren’t all so scattered across the globe as I’d like to spend ALL THE TIME with you. I listened to HAMILTON…A LOT….and I was renamed Kayle (kay-lee) at Starbucks. And finally, near the end of the month I took a long weekend to go see a very good friend of mine and had a fabulous time with Mini-Mal!

And that’s #alamw16 day 1 in the books.

I love music and if I’m not listening to an audio book then you can be sure my trusty old iPod is getting a major workout. This month it wasn’t just any one song that I was drawn to but an entire soundtrack. Like so many I succumbed to the obsession that is HAMILTON and I pretty much listen to it non-stop when I am not trying to listen to an audiobook. It was really hard to pick just one song to highlight here so I choose the one that was playing when I got to this section of my recap post, QUIET UPTOWN. This song take place shortly after Hamilton and Eliza lose their eldest son in a dual and its just filled with ALL THE TEARS!

With no 5 star reads in November and only one 4 star read that makes my Top 12 pick for November 2015 pretty easy. I know I’m really late in putting up my month in review post….2015 has been a crazy year and so I’m currently battling a cold and end of year exhaustion so don’t have this readily available right now. But check back later and I hope to have filled in this space.

Random Moments from November 2015:

Be sure to check out my instagram to see what I’ve been up to!

This month saw the introduction of Mini-Mal into my Instagram feeds. Mini-Mal was a gift from my #OTSPSecretSister and I just fell in love with this wee little Funko Pop. You can check out her adventures at the Instagram hashtag #IrishandMalAdventures. I also traveled down to NYC for the Jay Kristoff and Aimee Kaufman Illuminae signing and it was an amazing event followed by dinner with a good friend. There was also Thanksgiving where I stuffed myself on my mom’s turkey dinner and I received an amazing Pocket Letter from Jaime Arkin of Fiction Fare. November wasn’t all good times though as it saw the loss of my great-uncle Jack and while he lived a long and amazing life it was still sad to say that final goodbye. But I did take that chance to say hello to my grandparents who are buried in the same cemetery where my Uncle Jack will be laid to rest. I miss them all dearly but know that all the brothers are happy to be reunited again along with their wives.

The Contenders – 5 Star Reads

First Edit….because I someone managed to post this without picking out what my  favorite book of the month was! Ugh…I am so out of it this week. =( Anywho as seems to be the norm these days I don’t have any 5 star reads so looking at my 4 star books for my favorite book of October 2015. Of them, I liked them all and found them to be quick and enjoyable reads but the one that stood out the most was FIRSTS by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn. Its not a perfect book and the MC got on my nerves at time but its raw and edgy and I can not wait to see what Flynn comes up with next. FIRSTS doesn’t come out until January 2016 but you are definitely going to want to check this one out so add it to your Goodreads lists now.

Firsts

Random Moments from October 2015:

Be sure to check out my instagram to see what I’ve been up to! Overall October was a great month! I went to a pumpkin carving party at a friends house in Salem. I also jumped on the planner wagon and started buying stickers and making spreads and just having fun….here’s hoping this helps me keep a planner for more than a few months! Tickets also went on sale for the JK Rowling’s play The Cursed Child which is set in the Harry Potter Universe…and I decided to be adventurous and I bought a ticket! So in early 2017 (seems so far!) I’ll be going on a long weekend to London to see a play and soak up some of that wonderful smoggy air. I can’t wait!! I also decided to see what the fuss was about over this musical called Hamilton and I’m totally hooked on the soundtrack! Now I am plotting on traveling down to NYC to try and get rush tickets to go see it live….fingers crossed for me!!

This month I’m going to take a break from hosting a montly contest. I’ve invested a lot in prize donations for Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-at-thon so need to recover from that plus buying theatre tickets and some upcoming life events means that I may not put a contest back up until after the new year. The Contenders – 5 Star Reads

The Mirror King by Jodi Meadows

Well with only one 5 star read of the month it makes choosing my favorite read of the month pretty easy. This one should come as no surprise considering how much I loved the first book in the series, The Orphan QueenThe Orphan Queen (my review). This book was a great conclusion to this duology though I would love it if one day Jodi writes a novella on what happens next. I loved this world and these characters so it was hard to part from them and I just want to know what they are up to after the book ends. Definitely put this one on your radar for 2016!

Random Moments from September 2015:

Be sure to check out my instagram to see what I’ve been up to! Overall September was an amazing month…it was my birthday month with is always a good thing and I also went to Greece! I love to travel and every year I try to go some place new and this year it was Greece. It was hot a hell most of the time but it was also very beautiful and I had fun exploring the islands with my friend Drea. It was definitely a great way to kick off the month and as always it was over too soon. To see all of my Greek pictures just search the hashtag #GailandtheGreekTrip on Instagram!

In the later part of the month I attended the Boston Teen Author Festival and got to meet the fabulous Becky Albertalli who wrote one of my favorite books of 2015, Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda (my review). This book hit me at the right moment in a terrible year and I just feel head over heels for it. If you haven’t read it than you need to do so…now! And maybe the best thing to happen in the month was that two of my very best friends welcomed their very first baby on September 25….Henry Vincent. He is this amazing bright eyed little burrito and I just love him to pieces!! I can’t wait to watch him grow and become the biggest geek on the planet (seriously, if you know his parents and all his honorary aunts and uncles then you know this is inevitable.)

I love music and if I’m not listening to an audio book then you can be sure my trusty old iPod is getting a major workout. This month the song I gravitated to most was Taylor Swift’s Wildest Dreams.

Monthly Contest

This month I’m going to take a break from hosting a montly contest. I’m putting this month in review post up late and I’ve also invested a lot in prize donations for Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-at-thon but I still hope that you’ll leave me a comment letting me know your favorite book of September or the song you just can’t get enough of!

The winner of last months contest is: Sandra  .

Congratulations! And thanks to everyone else for entering!!

Violent Ends

I had no star reads this month but near the end I read too books that I just really fell in like with, VIOLENT ENDS and EVERYTHING, EVERYTHING. This book was so good y’all you really need to have this one in your life. Its so raw and powerful and timely. A must read for sure!

Earlier this year the brother of a really really good friend of mine passed away. August 1 would have been his 30th birthday and while he couldn’t be here to celebrate we had a party in his honor. RIP Vinny Saquet, you are forever missed.

My friend Sarah and I made our annual pilgrimage to Dinosaur BBQ…this place was a staple of our college years and we both really wish there was a closer location. It was so good and worth the 3 hour drive!

Annual Clambake…and oh it smells so delicious!! #clambake #clams #newengland

A photo posted by Irish (@irisheyz77) on

Every year my dad’s volunteer fire department hosts a clambake and it is seriously one of the best events of my summer. So so good!

*************

This year Coke repeated its name on a bottle campaign and while they added a bunch of new names, including some not very common ones, they still didn’t have mine. I lamented about this to friends because my name is so very rarely on anything. My friend Ashley, being the amazing soul that she is, had a bottle made with my name on it as an early birthday gift. It was seriously one of the sweetest things!

Currently on repeat:

I love music and if I’m not listening to an audio book then you can be sure my trusty old iPod is getting a major workout. This month when I wasn’t listening to Heir of Fire or Armada I was often found listening to Photograph by Ed Sheeren. I’ve never really been drawn to his music before but there is just something about this song that always makes me stop and listen when it comes on the radio or turns up on my iPod.

What song(s) did you have on repeat in August 2015?

Overall, June was a darn good reading month even if I didn’t have any 5 star reads. Many of the 4 star books I did read were really good and I’m so glad that there was one book that inched itself into the 4.5 star range otherwise I’m not sure how I would have chosen! Seriously, books like The Friend Zone and Come Back to Me really got me in the feels. And books like Jesse’s Girl and When a Scot Ties the Knot really gave all those wonderful heart achy moments that I love. So if its listed in my 4 star list then you should check it out, you can thank me later. As for my Top 12 list for June 2015? Well, that one goes to The Boy Most Likely To by Huntley Fitzpatrick. I could not put this one down once I picked it up. If you liked Tim, even just a smidge in My Life Next Door (my review) you’ll LOVE him in this one!

The Contenders – 5 Star Reads

Aristotle and Dante

While not a 5 star read, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, was such a wonderful and touching story though it did have some flaws. I listened to this one on audio and really enjoyed the narrator and the pacing. My biggest complaint? That it ended. If you haven’t read this one then you really need to add it to your pile.

What about you? What was your favorite book read this month? Let me know in the comments below. =)

I also kind of hate that its in a car commercial because I get so mad when the song cuts off! I just want to keep listening!
