Excerpt: Be With Me by Jennifer Armentrout

Excerpt: Be With Me by Jennifer Armentrout

BE WITH ME Synopsis:

From the author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Wait for You

Do Teresa and Jase have a real shot at getting together or will life get in the way?

Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn’t spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, life-changing kiss. Then she got out of a terrible relationship. Now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for plan B: college. And maybe she’ll have a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.

Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone—especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn’t have time for a relationship. But it doesn’t help that all he can think about is kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Teresa can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not. . . .

EXCERPT:

“You got a visitor, Tess.” He rested his chin atop my head, which caused my pulse to try

to outrun my heart. “Two of them to be exact.”

“Okay.”

There was a pause. “Are your eyes closed?”

“No.”

His chin slid off my head and then his chest rumbled as he laughed. “Your eyes are

closed.” He laughed again. “Open them up.”

Cursing under my breath, I pried one eye open and then jerked against him. His arm

tightened. “Oh wow …”

The black-and-white horse was the closest, standing mere feet away from me. The brown

one wasn’t too far, shaking its head and making soft snorts. My eyes were wide as they bounced

between the two creatures. “They’re not carnivorous, right? Because at their size, they could eat

me.”

Jase laughed deeply as his hand shifted up, resting in the center of my stomach, just

below my breasts. “Horses do not eat people, you little idiot.”

I started, eyes narrowing. “There’s always a first.”

The lips pulled back on the black-and-white horse as if it was smirking at me.

“This one right here? Mr. Friendly? Jack calls him Bubba One,” he said in a quiet,

calming voice. But air hitched in my throat when his thumb moved in a slow circle over the thin

material of my tank top, hitting against the wire in my bra. “And the brown one is Bubba Two.”

Mouth dry, I wetted my lips. “That’s good for remembering names.”

He chuckled as his pinkie and forefinger started to move up and down, reaching my belly

button and then sliding back up. It was almost as if he was unaware of what he was doing, or the

electrifying response the tiny motions were dragging out of me. “I think so too, but his real name

is Lightning.”

Said horse shook his head, tossing the shaggy mane.

“Lightning seems to be a more suitable name,” I admitted, relaxing as the seconds

passed. Maybe that was his intention. Distract me with the soft, almost innocent touches. It was

working. “What about Bubba Two?

“Ah, the one who is staring at the pail like it’s the holy mecca of grain?” His cheek

grazed mine as I laughed. “That’s Thunder. And we’re going to feed them. Together.”

The friction his fingers created with my shirt sent tiny shivers up and down my back.

“With our hands?”

His answering laugh tipped the corners of my lips up. “Yes. With our hands.”

“After checking out the choppers on them, I’m not so sure about that.”

“You’ll be okay.” He slid his hand off my stomach and wrapped it around my wrist.

Slowly, he lifted my hand out in front of me. “Hold still.”

My heart lurched. “Jase—”

Lightning trotted forward and pressed his wet nose against my hand. I cringed, waiting

for him to eat my poor fingers. The horse didn’t. Nope. It nudged my hand as it whinnied softly.

He guided my hand up over Lightning’s jaw, all the way to the pointy, twitchy ears.

“See?” he murmured. “That’s not too bad, is it?”

I shook my head as my fingers curled along the soft coat. Lightning seemed to anticipate

the direction of the petting, pressing his long head against my hand as my fingers tangled in his

mane. It wasn’t bad at all.

Jase shifted behind me, and in an instant all thoughts of the horses evaporated. His hips

lined up against my backside, and I bit down on my lower lip as I focused on the white splotch

covering Lightning’s muzzle.

I could feel him—feel Jase. And there was absolutely no doubt in my mind that he was

affected by how close we were standing. That knowledge and the hard length of him left me

dizzy, just like it had done that Saturday night. An all too warm flush spread down my neck. In

the back of my head, I was rationalizing his physical reaction. He was a guy. Our bodies were pressed

together. If a wind blew on a guy’s private area, they got hard. So I should just ignore it,

but my body was so not on board with my head. My body was operating on a different playing

field. An ache centered low in my stomach. A sharp and sweet yearning raced through my veins.

“Not so scary, right?” His voice was deeper, richer. “They’re like dogs. Well, like a dog

that can carry around two hundred pounds, if not more.” Hand sliding off mine, he stepped back,

and the sudden emptiness of his body was like a cold shock. “Trust me.”

Then he smacked my ass.

2014 Reading Goals

Posted by Irish in Challenge6 Comments

2014 Reading Goal

For the last couple of years I’ve joined various challenges around the internet with every intention of keeping up on them as well as checking in each month. Without fail, I never seem to do that. I do tend to keep up a tally on my blog of my challenge goals but I rarely make it back to the host site to check in. There are also challenges that I join and then fail at miserably but not reading the books. So this year I decided to change things up a bit. Rather than join internet challenges I’m challenging myself to read books that fit into certain categories. As I would also like to read 150 books this year I’ve set this up so that one book can only count towards one category. 2013 Challenges

Posted by Irish in Challenge12 Comments

Here is a list of all the challenges that I am currently participating in for 2013. I’ll try to keep this list updated throughout the year as I complete portions of it. To see what I thought of a book just click on the links that I add to the book titles. If you are interested in learning more about these challenges or signing up yourself just click on the Title of each that appears before the summary.

.

What’s in a Name 6

This has been a favorite challenge of mine over the last few years so I’m looking forward to taking part in it again. Here’s how it works: Between January 1 and December 31, 2013, read one book in each of the following categories. Overlaps are allowed between other challenges but not between categories and books can be any media source (print, audio, ebook). I’ll be replacing the examples (books in italics) with the actual titles of the books I read as I read them.

  1. A book with up or down (or equivalent) in the title: Down to You (Bad Boys, Book 1) by M. Leighton
  2. A book with something you’d find in your kitchen in the title: Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs
  3. A book with a party or celebration in the title: Rock with Me (With Me in Seattle, Book 4) by Kristen Proby
  4. A book with fire (or equivalent) in the title: Blaze by Laurie Boyle Crompton
  5. A book with an emotion in the title: Victoria Rebels by Carolyn Meyer
  6. A book with lost or found (or equivalent) in the title:  The Lost Boy by Greg Ruth

Back to the Classics Challenge

Challenge runs from 01 January through December 31, 2013. Books started before January 1st do not count, and all links/reviews/comments for each category must be posted in the correct place by December 31st. Books read for this Challenge can be used toward any other Challenge you may be participating in. However, you must read a different book for each category of this challenge. Audio and e-books are allowed. This year the challenge has two parts with 6 required categories and some optional ones. I failed at this one last year reading 4 out of the 9 required books so I am hoping to do better this year.

The Required Categories:

A 19th Century Classic –
A 20th Century Classic –
A Pre-18th or 18th Century Classic –
A Classic that relates to the African-American Experience – This can be an African-American author, or a book relating to slavery, civil rights, or African-American culture.
A Classic Adventure –
A Classic that prominently features an Animal – This can feature animal characters or animals in the title (real or imagined)

Optional Categories:

A. Re-read a Classic
B. A Russian Classic
C. A Classic Non-Fiction title

The Comments Pledge Challenge

Posted by Irish in Challenge28 Comments

So I’ve been doing this blogging thing for awhile and I still get the warm fuzzies anytime someone leaves a comment. (Well the ones that aren’t spam or say how much I suck but lets not go there…k?) There is just something invigorating when someone not only takes the time to read your blog but to tell you so. To comment on what you said – be it to agree or disagree or what have you. For the first 2 years I ran this blog I didn’t really go out into the blogging world much. I just never thought much about it…which is weird since its because of the blogging world that I got the inspiration to start this blog.
But when I did go out and visit other blogs I would leave comments…and wouldn’t you know it those people would then come and comment back on my blog. It was this happy little circle and it was so nice to connect with other readers. Then I started to go on twitter more and more and I noticed that while I still visited blogs I didn’t take that extra minute to leave a comment. Again I go back to what I said before about how I get the warm fuzzies whenever I get a comment. I love it when people take that extra time to share the comment love with me and in a recent conversation with Erica from The Book Cellar – we both realized that we aren’t doing our fair share of giving that comment love back.
Its so easy to say that you’re busy and don’t have time. You’ll go back and comment later. But those who comment on your blog have lives too. They are busy and they don’t make excuses. So Erica and I have decided that for 2011 every time we visit a blog we’ll leave at least one comment on a post that captures our interest. One comment that takes a few minutes of our day but then will give someone else the warm fuzzies. Sounds like a win-win plan, doesn’t it? Now my challenge to you is this…
won’t you do the same as Erica and I and share in the spreading of commenting love? Leaving comments is good karma – what goes around comes around. The more comments you leave for others the more likely people will leave comments for you.  There will be no prizes awarded if you partake…this is just a good old fashioned share the love sort of campaign. If you are in, leave a comment below and let me know. If not…then thanks for stopping by and reading this anonymously…and know that I’ll still comment on your blog.
Happy 2011 everyone….I look forward to spending more times on the various blogs and hope to see you doing the same!
