Top 12 List: December 2014 / Month in Review

Posted by Irish in Contest, Month in Review, Top 12 List16 Comments

Hello Internet!

By now you know the drill with this post. I list out the top books that I read and loved this past month and from them I choose the best of the best. This book then gets listed in my Top 12 List (check out my sidebar) and at the end of the year those 12 books are pitted against each other and my top book for the year is chosen.

The Contenders – 5 Star Reads

I had no 5 stars reads in December 2014, I think that I’ve just been more picky in my reading habits this past year but I still managed to get through 10 books so I will call that a win for the month! The two contenders for my top pick though are two books that kind of surprised me, Not in the Script by Amy Finnegan and A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. Not in the Script is one of those contemporary books that I’d normally label as brain candy and that I’d normally give a 3 star rating to. I listed to this on on audio and enjoyed the narration and just really got swept up in the story and am now on the hunt for some good read-alikes…so if you have any then be sure to let me know in the comments! The other surprise was A Court of Thorns and Roses and this book is a prime example of why I don’t always count an author out just because I didn’t like a previous book(s) of theirs. I wasn’t a fan of Throne of Glass (my review) but I really liked what Maas did with the Beauty & the Beast and East of the Sun, West of the Moon fairy tales. There were even a few-Cinderella-eske moments tossed in too and probably a few other fairy tales that I missed.

All that said I must choose….and for December 2014 my favorite read was (insert drum roll here):

Not in the Script

What about you? What was your favorite book read this month? Let me know in the comments below. =)

What were some of your December 2014 highlights?

Currently on repeat:

I love music and if I’m not listening to an audio book then you can be sure my trusty old iPod is getting a major workout. Every so often there comes a song that I just can’t get out of my head. I’ll find myself humming it throughout the day or singing lyrics softly to myself and then when I’m my car I’ll put the song on repeat and just belt it out at the top of my lungs. This month that honor goes to Hozier’s Take Me to Church. There is just something about the melody and lyrics that just sings to my soul.

What song(s) did you have on repeat in December?

This isn’t my year end post yet just my December wrap up post. My year end post will have my graphs…oh sweet pretty graphs.

  2. Ashley

My favorite book of this month was The Sky is Everywhere by Jandy Nelson. I’ve been in a bit of a slump, so I haven’t been reading much nor have I been enjoying what I have been managing. It was gorgeous and emotional, and it has made me want to read again.

  3. alicia marie

My favorite book of the month was The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry. It was so good!

  4. Sandra

My favorite book for the month was definitely Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. Excellent story-telling! Great blog post!

  5. Kierra

Aww, that’s really fine. December was crazy for me as well, so I understand! As for my favorite book of the month, Crown of Embers takes the “crown.” Okay, I’ll stop the puns ;D

  6. Emma A

I also love Snow Like Ashes. It was not only one of my favorite books of the month, but of the year!

  7. Valerie Pennington

Not in the Script is one of my favorite books! The best book that I read this month was Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill. I ended up reading it twice because I loved it so much.

  8. Amy Finnegan

OMGOMG!! I just found this lovely post and I’m blown away! I’m so, so happy to hear that you liked NOT IN THE SCRIPT so much! But to also name it your favorite read this month?! Wow! Thank you 🙂 xo

I found SO many amazing books in December: Something Wild and Something Reckless by Lexi Ryan, The Fault in Our Stars, and Camouflaged by Selena Laurence! I found some great authors, and I’ve continued reading their books through January. =D
