Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish this weeks topic asks us about the cover trends that we like or dislike. At first I was a bit stumped by this one as there are so many things on covers that I love and then there are things that I dislike horribly. But then it hit me, I could nitpick on all the little things that I love or dislike or I could go with the oe thing that I dislike most in books. The cover change.

I get that sometimes the original cover doesn’t work or that a movie is made so there has to be a movie tie-in editon (my least fave of all cover changes) but then there are time when every edition of a book has a new cover. The one that springs to mind immediatly is the Across the Universe series by Beth Revis. A series that seemed to a new cover with every book or hardcover to paperback change.

One series that I think did the cover change well is Kiersten Gier’s Ruby Red trilogy, which changed the cover for the paperback of book one but then kept the same style of the hardcover for the other books in the series. Which appeals to me as a reader as all my hardcovers match. Unlike many other series I own where none of the hardcover books match.

Ooh, yes, cover changes are annoying. The series that flashed to the front of my mind that’s had about 50 different covers, I think: The Spellmans by Lisa Lutz. I think they might have finally settled on something, but … so many different things. Almost like whiplash.

I absolutely LOATHE cover changes. And yes, Across the Universe was one of my most hated changes. Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater rather annoys me because it in no way matches the original series. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate cover changes when the entire series has already been released. That way, we as buyers can have a series with matching covers. Super frustrating.

OMG. It bugs me so, SO much when the cover changes in the middle of the series. I don’t mind nearly as much when the publisher redesigns it AFTER the whole series is published. Plus, I detested the Across the Universe’s pb change. I adored the hardcover version of the first two books, so I don’t understand why they had to change it! ~rant over~
