First Line(s): I woke up on the bathroom floor. Everything hurt.

Lick by Kylie Scott is a new adult/adult read involving rock stars and the semi-innocent girly-girl, a cliched formula, but one that works for me. Lick starts in Las Vegas where Evelyn is celebrating her 21st birthday and wakes up the next morning on the bathroom floor. It was a wild night that she doesn’t remember and involved meeting and marrying David Ferris, famed drummer of the band Stage Dive. As a result of the black out, things get off to a rocky start between our duo and to be honest I thought that David acted like a bit of an ass about it. He defiantly fits into that brooding, broken, alpha male mold and Evelyn is the young innocent who saves him with her love.

Lick is a bit of cliche in every way, the couple comes together, breaks apart over a stupid misunderstanding, and repeats the cycle a couple of times until they get it right. I liked Evelyn for the most part but there were times when she was just a little too touchy and naive for my tastes. Just as David was a bit too much of an ass with his yelling and posturing. There were a few times when I wished that they two would just stay broken up because I couldn’t deal with their drama. But in the end the two characters both grew up a little and I was happy with the stories resolution.

I also liked the various secondary characters that popped in and out throughout the story and think that I’ll lick those stories better. I know that after finishing Lick that I was really looking forward to Mal’s story as he just seemed like such a fun and lovable character. Different from the usual jaded pop star/alpha male for while I do like my broken alphas it is always a refreshing change when you get a relatively normal person tossed into the mix.

For me, Lick was a like not a love but I think that the series holds promise and I look forward to seeing where it goes. I will most likely read them all as I do love these musician based stories. Not sure what the appeal is for me but I so heart them more than ones with the billionaire CEO. Maybe because in some ways its a bit more realistic to have a 20-something rockstar than a 20-something protege/savant business man. We all have our preferences and this one is mine. So if you know of any other rock star/musician stories then be sure to let me know!
