First Line: My back hits the wall with a light thud, and Nate’s face is buried in my throat, his hands on my ass, skirt hiked up around my waist, pulling me up so he can cradle his still-covered erection in the apex of my thighs.
I started reading the With Me in Seattle series because I’d signed up for a blog tour not realizing that the book was the fourth in a series. I tried to read them out of order but it just wasn’t working in my brain so I did a blitz read of all the books that came before it. The first book, Come Away With Me, was ok but nothing super amazing special about it. And the novella…ugh what a waste of time. So walking into Fight with Me I had mixed expectations as it really could have gone either way.
In the end, I really enjoyed this book even with some of its more implausible plot points. Sometimes though you just want to escape into a book and you can let go of some of the events that probably wouldn’t happen in the real world. We first meet Jules in Come Away With Me and I really liked her in that book. She was a good friend to Natalie and was a strong and feisty character. This continued in Fight with Me and since you get into her head in this book you get to see a bit more of that. Jules and Nate had a lot of chemistry and several laugh out loud moments. They really worked well together and I enjoyed seeing how Nate fit into the whole Montgomery clan.
There was also a decent plot to this story even if it stretched realism a bit and lots of steamy scenes as well. And while they do get to be a bit repetitive they aren’t gratuitous and they don’t distract from the story line. Well, not overly anyway. The climatic scene was a bit rushed and seemed a little forced but I did like how this one wasn’t all about boy meets girl and they fall in love. I like my stories with a little depth to them.
Fight with Me was a really quick read and I finished it almost before I realized it was done. Its a book that I wouldn’t have minded if it had gone on a little longer and one that made me long for the next book in the series. I really like the family unit that Kristen Proby has created and I like how well she uses all those characters in each of her books. I like how once a person’s story is told that they don’t disappear off the page barely heard from again. Fight with Me wasn’t perfect but it hit the right notes with me as I read it. If I’d read it at a different time my thoughts my be different but as it is this is a book that I can put my stamp of approval on
