Book 1 – Beach House No. 9

Book 2 – Bungalow Nights
Book 3 – The Love Shack

I recently read and reviewed the first book in this series, Beach House No. 9, and it wasn’t a story that made me fall head over heels in love with it. If I didn’t have this blog tour post to write then I might never have moved on to read the second book, Bungalow Nights. You first hear about the characters in this book in a random conversation in Beach House No. 9 but you don’t actually meet them until the start of this story. And the characters of the previous book are only mentioned here, with the exception of Skye Alexander who appears in both books. So its possible to be able to read these out of order with nothing lost in the process. I almost wish I had done that as I did enjoy Bungalow Nights a lot more than
Beach House No. 9

Though like Beach House No. 9, Bungalow Nights, does have a secondary storyline. I am still not a fan of this plot device, and probably never will be, as I find that it often takes away from the main characters story. Though unlike the first book I did actually like the secondary story told in this one. I just wish that it had been a story all of its own as there was enough material for it. As it was presented here it all just felt so rushed and those crazy sinister/mystery-eske moments never really had the tension in them that they could have had.

I also liked the main characters of this book better than the first one, Vance and Layla just seemed more genuine and had more chemistry. Even with their rocky beginnings…Vance thought Layla was 10 and not in her early 20s. I also liked Vance’s backstory and wish that more had been done with that. Instead those moments were taken away by the secondary storyline and so everything in that resolution felt a bit rushed.

Overall, I liked this book a lot better and read it faster as a result. I am fairly certain I know what Skye’s issues are and will most likely be reading her story soon. If I was just going on the first book I wouldn’t not have progressed with these books. But after reading this one I am curious to see how Ridgway handles Skye’s story. Hopefully, I will like it as much as I liked this one and that it too contains some heart achy moments. I just hope that the whole secondary storyline ends with this book. Not. a. fan.

I’m glad to see that you enjoyed this one more than you expected to – that’s always a treat!

Thanks for being on the tour.

It’s good to hear that the story got better for you. There’s nothing worse than being even more disappointed in the sequel. Hopefully it’ll only go up from here.

You know if it hadn’t been for this review I would never have considered this book – I think the name would have put me off a little. But now I’ll give it a read!
