WWW Wednesday: 23 January 2013 (Find out what I'm reading this week)

WWW Wednesdays is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading asks you to answer the following three (3) questions…

• What are you currently reading?
• What did you recently finish reading?
• What do you think you’ll read next?

My answers:

What are you currently reading?

Venom by Fiona Paul (GoodReads). I didn't make any progress on this.

The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken (Goodreads). I didn't make any progress on this as I was distracted by other books.

A Million Suns by Beth Revis (Goodreads, Audio). Been mixing up my commute with audio and listening to music. I am enjoying this story but wishing that there wasn't this big mystery. I've never been a fan of the whole 'I have something to tell you but I'm not going to so instead I'll leave clues and hope you figure it out in time' plot device.

What did you recently finish reading?

Mystery Man by Kristen Ashley (Goodreads, 4 Stars). This was a delicious read. I loved the banter between Gwen and Hawk and loved seeing their story develop. See my full review here.

The Other Guy by Cary Attwell (Goodreads, 3.5 Stars). This was a really quick read and overall I did enjoy the story. I loved watched Emory and Nate's relationship grow. Though I do wish that this book had a little more depth and didn't have such a heavy use of  fancy $3 words and old fashioned language. There was many a time where I felt like I was reading a historical romance of the 1975 dime store variety. You know the ones with lots of flowery type speak and just allusions to sex. See my full review here.

Asunder by Jodi Meadows (Goodreads, 5 stars). So I know I'm in the middle of several books but I wanted to get this read before attending an author signing. Although after finishing this I realized the signing was next week, oops. It was was easy to just sink back into this world and I adored meeting up with Ana and Sam again. This one had some unexpected twists and I liked it more than the first. Can't wait for the third book.

Thief by Ava March (Goodreads, 4 stars). I had planned to spend my day off finishing up one of the books I'm in the middle of or read a book that I have for an upcoming blog tour. And yet I somehow found myself flipping through my kindle and before I knew it I was finishing this one up. Thief is a short M/M historical romance and I enjoyed it very much. There wasn't a ton of substance to the story but it was the perfect brain candy book that I didn't know I needed. It also had all of the smexy times that I felt The Other Guy was missing. If you like historical romances then you might enjoy this one as well.

Doctor Who III Volume 1 by Andy Diggle & Brandon Seifert, Illustrated by Mark Buckingham &  Philip Bond (Goodreads, 3 stars). This was another distraction on Monday but its a graphic novel so it was...um...quick? Overall, this was just ok. The illustrations weren't the best, especially with the earlier stories and the dialogue just didn't always mesh well with the doctor and his companions. It also ends with a cliff hanger and I am never a fan of that...although I know that's the MO with lots of serial comics/graphic novels.

Cinders & Sapphires by Leila Rasheed - Sneak Peak (Goodreads). Not going to rate this one as I didn't read the full book, just a sneak peak that was availabel on Netgalley. I really liked the portion was available and felt it had a Downton Abbey feel to it. Definitely going to have to check out the full story at some point to see how all the story lines progress.

Double Crossed by Ally Carter (Goodreads, 3 stars). I wasn't planning on reading this one until I saw that it was available to read on my kindle. Its a free novella that combines Carter's two series. This novella is told by Macey McHenry and Hale and I loved reading their voices. Macey is so much less annoying than Cammie and Hale...is Hale. It was a decent story and a good addition to the series but nothing super spectacular.

What did I post about last week?
What do you think you'll read next?

I'll probably read something from my List of Twelve.
  1. Classic/Middle Grade^Ash Mistry and the Savage Palace by Sarwat Chadda
  2. New Release*: A Million Suns by Beth Revis
  3. Series: If We Kiss & Kiss Me Again by Rachel Vail - ok I know this is two books but they are both short so they can almost count as one.
  4. Backlist**: The Vampire Stalker by Allison VanDiepen
  5. Review Book: Venom by Fiona Paul
I also have some books from the library, to read for a blog tour, or to prepare for an upcoming book signing to read. Plus all those shiny new books that always seem to catch my eye and distract me. If I ever finish the list of twelve above then I'll try to work any of these books that remain into the new list. Needless to say though I'm going to be pretty busy over the next couple of months.

  1. I really need to read Darkest Minds. I've heard nothing but good things about that one. I don't think I'll read Asunder. I had a very difficult time finished Incarnate.

    1. Sorry you didn't like Incarnate, I loved it and I've liked what I've read of Darkest Minds. I just need to sit down and finish it.

  2. Boo about the Doctor Who comic! I admit, I haven't started it yet. But it was because I was so immersed in other reads. Graphic novels are pretty quick, though. I'll read it even though it's not that impressive. :)

You have a lot of great reads on your table. :D

    1. I think its just hard to have a comic medium when there is a live action show on. I had a hard time getting into the Buffy comics when the show ended as well.

    1. I'm about 200 pages in and I'm liking it...just easily distracted these days. If I don't finish a book in one sitting then there is a good chance another will lure me away the next day.
