Here is a list of all the challenges that I am currently participating in for 2013. I'll try to keep this list updated throughout the year as I complete portions of it. To see what I thought of a book just click on the links that I add to the book titles. If you are interested in learning more about these challenges or signing up yourself just click on the Title of each that appears before the summary.
This has been a favorite challenge of mine over the last few years so I'm looking forward to taking part in it again. Here's how it works: Between January 1 and December 31, 2013, read one book in each of the following categories. Overlaps are allowed between other challenges but not between categories and books can be any media source (print, audio, ebook). I'll be replacing the examples (books in italics) with the actual titles of the books I read as I read them.
- A book with up or down (or equivalent) in the title: Deep down True, The Girl Below, The Diva Digs up the Dirt
- A book with something you'd find in your kitchen in the title: Loose Lips Sink Ships, The Knife of Never Letting Go, Breadcrumbs
- A book with a party or celebration in the title: A Feast for Crows, A Wedding in Haiti, Cocktail Hour under the Tree of Forgetfulness
- A book with fire (or equivalent) in the title: Blaze by Laurie Boyle Crompton
- A book with an emotion in the title: Victoria Rebels by Carolyn Meyer
- A book with lost or found (or equivalent) in the title: The Book of Lost Fragrances, The World We Found, A Discovery of Witches
Challenge runs from 01 January through December 31, 2013. Books started before January 1st do not count, and all links/reviews/comments for each category must be posted in the correct place by December 31st. Books read for this Challenge can be used toward any other Challenge you may be participating in. However, you must read a different book for each category of this challenge. Audio and e-books are allowed. This year the challenge has two parts with 6 required categories and some optional ones. I failed at this one last year reading 4 out of the 9 required books so I am hoping to do better this year.
The Required Categories:
- A 19th Century Classic -
- A 20th Century Classic -
- A Pre-18th or 18th Century Classic -
- A Classic that relates to the African-American Experience - This can be an African-American author, or a book relating to slavery, civil rights, or African-American culture.
- A Classic Adventure -
- A Classic that prominently features an Animal - This can feature animal characters or animals in the title (real or imagined)
- A. Re-read a Classic
- B. A Russian Classic
- C. A Classic Non-Fiction title
- D. A Classic Children's/Young Adult title
- E. Classic Short Stories - collection must include at least 3 short stories by the same author, or at least 3 stories collected together by genre, time period, etc.
2013 Debut Author Challenge
The objective is to read twelve (12) YA (Young Adult) or MG (Middle Grade) novels from debut authors published this year. I’m hoping to read at least 25. Challenge will run from 01 January - December 31, 2013. Authors that have "adult" titles currently published but are debuting a YA/MG novel in 2012 can be included and this goes for authors that have children's books published as well. Novels must be read in 2013 in order to be counted.

2013 Self-Published Challenge
Last year I started to take some chances and read some more self-published books and found some really good reads. When I saw that there was a challenge for it for 2013 I thought that I would try it out. There are 7 possible levels for this challenge and I am going to go with Paragraph and aim for 10 self published reads. I didn't really keep track of how many I read in 2012 so this should be interesting. This challenge runs from 01 January to 31 December 2013.

Wow, you've committed to an awful lot of challenges! I signed up for the What's In A Name and eBook challenges, but am trying to resist joining any more as I tend to not finish. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI have about the same amount as last year and I managed to complete all but one. Its nice when you can use one book across multiple challenges. If its an ebook, by a 2013 debut male author, contains the word up in it, and is dystopian than that's 5 challenges I can put it towards.
DeleteI only join the ones that I think I can do and you'd be amazed how many books can cross over into different challenges. =)
Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
DeleteWow! I thought I was being ambitious with my challenges but you are way more ambitious than me. Good luck with all your challenges and thanks for joining the contemporary challenge!
ReplyDeleteI did a similar amount last year...for me its all about those books that can be used in multiple challenges. Much more doable that way. =)
DeleteLooks like you've got a lot of fun planned in 2013! (I made that YA Contemp button ;))
ReplyDeleteYay! Thanks for giving mine another shot! I'm also doing Adam's TBR Challenge - but I had to stop there (though I always LOVE the What's in a Name challenge). I like the Male Authors one - I hadn't seen that yet. Good luck with them all!
ReplyDeleteThe Male Author one isn't an official challenge from anywhere. Just a personal one I'm doing to change up my focus a bit. And this year I hope to do better at your challenge than last year. but 4 out of 9 wasn't bad. =)
DeleteThanks for joining us! Have a great time :)
ReplyDeleteWow, you are doing a ton of challenges! Good luck with all that. I think I could definitely be down for the ebook challenge, but I don't know if I'll officially sign-up or not...
ReplyDeleteThese are all great challenges! I didn't see the Dystopian one. I might need to add that one on.
