Blogust anyone?

Posted by Irish in Misc5 Comments

Hello Internet!

Welcome to my little humble space on the web. Earlier today I was over at my friend Cat’s blog, Beyond Elsewhere, and read about her Blog Every Day in August project (aka Blogust). This was an idea I liked and I look forward to her posts but didn’t think it was something I could do. After all, this is primarily a book blog and seriously what would I say that wasn’t about books every day of the month. I mean…there are 31 days and I am not that creative.

BUT

(see what I did there…big but)

Anywho…Cat and her friend Yoj (of Do What Now?) came up with a handy dandy topic list so there really is not thinking required. Well…at least not in the thinking that requires you to come up with a topic and sometimes that’s the hardest thing…though I’m sure I might still sit and stare at a blinking cursor at some point during this. Thanks to my dear friends Copy and Paste the list of topics are as follows:

  1. Why do you write?
  2. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
  3. Top 5 pet peeves
  4. Where do you find inspiration?
  5. Your favourite comfort foods and why.
  6. Your favourite summer memorie(s).
  7. If you could have any job, anywhere in the world, what would it be?
  8. Your guilty pleasure(s).
  9. Put your iPod on shuffle, list the first 10 songs that pop up & share why you have them in your music library.
  10. If you could have one superpower/magical power, what would it be and why?
  11. 7 interesting facts about you
  12. Your favourite book(s) and why.
  13. TV shows you feel were underrated; that you think the world needs to know about.
  14. How have you changed in the past 3 years?
  15. Your biggest regret in life.
  16. If money were no object, list 5 things you’d do.
  17. List 3 songs that inspire you or are your go-to songs when you need to change your mood.
  18. Something you miss.
  19. Stream of consciousness writing. Whatever you want, however long you want, just write as your brain works.
  20. Comfort food(s).
  21. What does friendship mean to you?
  22. Do you think family is defined by blood, or by action?
  23. What is the oldest piece of clothing you own and still wear?
  24. What is one thing you are exceptionally bad at?
  25. Do you believe in fate?
  26. What social media outlets do you use and why do you use them?
  27. Are you scared to follow your dreams?
  28. Post a photo and have your followers write a short story about said photo. Then publish in Sept!
  29. Interview someone- parent, spouse, bestie, barista. Don’t just ask regular questions, shake it up!
  30. Pick something absurd off of Pinterest & write about it.
  31. Why we decided to do Blogust, what we learned, was it fun & are we going to do this shizz in September?

See…those don’t sound hard, right? Its totally doable…and if you are interested in partaking then you should head over to Cat’s blog and leave here a comment by clicking this handy dandy link right here.

Now. First topic. Day 1…Why do I write?

Well…that’s a tricksy one. Because I don’t write. I used to write poetry up until a few years ago but then that sort of trickled out and I just haven’t been able to get my mojo back there. I’m hoping that by participating in Blogust that I’ll be able to expand my mental juices a little more and incorporate more things into this blog than just book reviews. I’ll still review books as its something that I love to do. But I don’t want my blog to become stagnant or to be just known for one thing and one thing only. I don’t like to be pigeon holed. I don’t know, maybe I should start a new blog of personal things but I think that if I did it would suffer as I wouldn’t check into it as much as I do with this one. So hopefully people don’t mind my branching out…but if so…well…then you can just ignore these non-bookish posts. I’ll still be posting my regular reviews but there will just be a little extra this month. =)

So…since I don’t really write this will be a short first entry as this here experiment in Blog Every Day in August is an experiment to see if I can write something other than book (and the occasional tv/movie) review.

You DO write! You blog about books and that is writing. I had thought about making that first topic “Why do you blog” but blogging and writing go hand and hand. Even book review posts are creative, you voice your thoughts and feelings about what you read. Not all review posts are clinical things. I think it takes a certain kind of person to blog, be it about books, food or ANYTHING. I’ve been blogging since 2003, and I’m still doing it and I have both a personal blog and a book blog (the book blog I never thought I’d remember to keep up! HA!) I write about things because it pleases me.

So, yes, you do write, m’dear. 😉

LOL I think I should have talked to you before I made my post. When I saw write I didn’t even think about reviewing as writing.

This sounds like a great project but I am still determined to take my August blogging break, so alas. I’ll look forward to your entries!

You should still do it…because its a different kind of blogging and won’t take much thought at all. #peerpressure
