I wasn’t sure what to expect from The Avengers movie other than EVERYONE was talking about it and they all seemed to love it. Now with books, such hype would make me wary and not want to see it but with a movie I was intrigued and it made me want to see it more. What can I say, I’m weird and contradictory.  My initial plan was to wait until it came out on DVD for then I’d have time to watch the other superhero movies that came before it but in the end I just couldn’t wait. So I walked into this movie with only having seen the first Iron Man movie.

Since I didn’t know the full back story on all the characters I wasn’t surprised that I was a little confused at first about what made them tick. But I wasn’t so confused that I couldn’t enjoy The Avengers movie for what it was. And it was a great movie. They hype was right. There was a lot of action….and I mean a lot. Enough to keep my over tired self awake and engaged throughout the whole thing. But what really makes this movie was the snarky one liners. Just when tension is at its peak and you think you might snap from it one of the characters would say something and you’d just start to laugh. It was such an amazingly perfect blend of action and humor that you just have to fall in love with this movie.

This was a great movie about people with very different (and often conflicting) natures learning to work together for a common goal. There was no forced story lines and everything just came across as real and believable and I was lost in this world for the duration of the film. Most of all this movie made me want to go out and watch the other superhero movies that came before it. Whereas before I had no real burning desire to do so.  I know that the seeds of this movie were spread in these earlier films and I am really curious to go back so that I can try and pick them out. I don’t say it very often but this is one of those movies that I would pay to go see again. It was just that good.

Now…to those in my town that have the other movies checked out of the library…can you please return them so I can watch them? Kthanxbai

I managed to watch the other movies before I saw this one (though it was a bit touch and go, thanks to other library patrons who had the DVDs checked out), so it left me with a burning desire to read MOAR SUPERHERO COMICS instead. Which is just what I’m trying to do over the next little bit. 🙂

I’m such a superhero dork, so of course I loved this movie. Like you found out, you didn’t have to see the previous movies to enjoy this one, but the little hints and digs at the other characters in the Iron Man movies, the Captain America movie and the Thor movie are a lot of fun.
