Top 12 List: February 2012

Posted by Irish in Top 12 List8 Comments

Another month is behind us and the time has come for me to pick my Top Pick of February 2012. This was a great reading month for me and I managed to read/listen to 17 books! I hope that I can keep this pace up as I really want to hit 125+ books read for the year. At my current rate I should read around 160 books. Which would be awesome. But ya’ll didn’t come here for that…you want to know what book was my favorite of the month. Well, first lets start with the nominees:

The Contenders
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (Audio)
Timepiece (Hourglass, Book 2) by Myra McEntire (ARC)
Social Suicide (Deadly Cool, Book 2) by Gemma Halliday (ARC)

Tough choices all! Especially since the first books of both Gemma Halliday and Myra McEntire were each Top 12 list winners of previous months. But of the three only one left me a complete and utter wreck after reading it and that book was *drumroll please*

Timepiece by Myra McEntire!!

This book almost shattered me. It is such a roller coaster ride and I couldn’t put it down until I have learned ALL THE THINGS. Readers of Hourglass will love this one. Kaleb is the ONLY one who could have told this part of the story. It is brilliant and leaves me a bit fearful of McEntire’s next book…each one gets closer and closer to killing me. Not sure my soul can take another book of hers…but if she publishes it…then I will read it. Risk of death or no….I won’t be able to stop myself.

Other books read this month:
4 Star Reads
Silent on the Moor (Lady Julia, Book 3) by Deanna Rayburn – 4.5 Stars (paperback)
Silent in the Sanctuary (Lady Julia, Book 2) by Deanna Rayburn (ebook)
Silent in the Grave (Lady Julia, Book 1) by Deanna Rayburn (Audio)
Harbinger by Sara Wilson Etienne (ARC)
3 Star Reads
A Need So Beautiful (A Need So Beautiful, Book 1) by Suzanne Young (ebook)
A Study in Scarlet (Sherlock Holmes, Book 1) by Arthur Conan Doyle (ebook)
Vesper (Deviants, Book 1) by Jeff Sampson (ARC)
Don’t Breathe a Word by Holly Cupala (ARC)
The Concubine by Jade Lee (ebook)
2 Star Reads
Switched (Trylle, Book 1) by Amanda Hocking (Audio)
DNF Reads – maybe I’ll try these again at some point, but for now they don’t resonate with me
Cinder by Marissa Meyer (ARC)
What about you? What books did you read and enjoy this month? Let me know in the comments below.

I am in LOVE with Deanna Raybourn! Her books are so fun to read – sometimes serious, sometimes witty. She’s so sweet in person too!

I am loving them so far! I am on the last one and it makes me very sad. I don’t want the series to end.

  2. Beth F

I have heard such great things about Ready Player One on audio — I need to squeeze that one in.

    • Irish

Yes you do. It was so good and engaging on audio. I think if I’d have read print I might have been bored with some of the descriptors.

  3. Melanie

I’m curious to read your review of the audio of Hocking’s book. Was it the performance or the book itself?

    • Irish

It was the book itself. I enjoyed the narrator…she was the only thing that carried me through until the end.

  4. Caspette

I have the first book (Hourglass?) ready to go on your recomendation! But my top read for this month was Graceling!

    • Irish

      READ HOURGLASS!!!! =)

I liked Graceling too…but so far Fire is my favorite in that series. Can’t wait to start Bitterblue and see where that falls in with everything.
